I can see by all the postings on social media sites that wedding season has begun for a lot of our photographers. As always, the images are looking great, and I’m sure it felt terrific to wipe off the cob webs from the long…but warm…winter and get the camera back in your hands. I’m sure it felt “less” than terrific to get back in front of your computer screen and edit thousands if images. Oh well…good with the bad, right?

News From PPSNYS
- At the Council meeting in May, Owen Kassimir officially took the gavel as president of PPSNYS. Owen has an infectious amount of energy, and I think he’ll continue outgoing President Greg Lewis’ efforts to make membership in PPSNYS a real benefit. Part of the new push will be member-exclusive information on the PPSNYS website.
- There is a new promotional campaign that we are pushing this year: “It Takes a Professional”. We are trying to stress to the photography-buying public why it is important for them to hire professionals to capture those once in a lifetime moments, such as weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, special anniversary celebrations, newborn babies, etc. We are not only providing photographs for our customers, but we are providing peace of mind that it will be done well, with quality, great customer service and integrity. We will be creating video testimonials from photographers and clients alike as part of the campaign. The videos will be placed on the PPSNYS website.
November GRPP Seminar
If you have not heard already, we are extremely fortunate to have Fuzzy Duenkel come and present an all-day seminar (Go Home Live) here in Rochester on Sunday, November 4, 2012. Fuzzy is widely considered one of the best portrait photographers in the country, and is someone that I’ve been following for years. This GRPP -sponsored event will be held at the Green Lantern Inn in Fairport, which is where our January 2012 seminar was held. And it promises to be an even bigger, more popular event than that one.

GRPP Social Events
Our new Social Event Queen, Erin Perrotta, has arranged this year’s first “purely-for-fun-because-we -just -don’t-hang-out-enough-with-our-favorite-photographer-friends” event. It’s going to be on Thursday, July 12, 2012

GRPP did not reserve a private cruise, so there will be others on the cruise, which is why you need to register early to ensure your favorite spot on deck. Or below deck…whatever floats your boat.
There is a fully licensed bar, soft drinks, water, juice, and snacks available for purchase.

Monroe County Zoo Photo Contest
Kelli O’Brien, the Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator for the Seneca Park Zoo contact me awhile ago and asked if our members would be interested in taking part in a photo contest they are running for their annual calendar. This is the information she sent me.
Let’s see if we can fill half of the calendar with GRPP members’ photos…and top each other while doing so.

Kelli indicated that they are still working on details for prizes but you can at least see which animals they chose to highlight for this year’s calendar as well as contest rules. The contest runs from May 1 through July 15.
